october 31

I wasn't originally planning to do a Halloween post but last minute I threw a costume together with some friends and it turned out looking pretty awesome! I spent a total of $5 on this costume and that was for the hair dye (total fail by the way). I wanted to be Snow White so I could dye my hair black but as you can see it turned out more of an ashy brown color. The whole outfit was simple to put together: yellow maxi skirt, white button down, blue tank top, red cape, and a red ribbon. I'd like to say my dwarfs look pretty spiffy too :).

Hope you all had a wonderful Halloween! Oh, and Happy November! ;)

October Favorites

Oh my goodness, where has the time gone? October flew by so fast. I will say it has been one of the best but most stressful months I have had this year. Every time fall comes around, I set goals for myself that I will go to a haunted house, carve pumpkins, bake holiday treats, etc. Usually, I never do any of those but this year I feel like I embraced all the fall activities that I could! I went to a haunted house earlier this month and even though it wasn't too scary, I had so much fun. It also got me into this stage of watching scary movies every weekend with friends. This past week I was watching a Chucky marathon and it was hysterical. I also went to the fair recently with one of my friends and we had fun playing with his GoPro camera on all the rides! You can view the video of our clips here. Okay, so on to some of my favorites for the month....

So I was introduce to the Walking Dead this month and I am really loving it. I haven't had much time to go back and watch the previous seasons but I am hoping to do that with all the holidays coming up.  I also caught up on Revenge which has been one of my favorite shows for about 3 years now. This season is mind-blowing and everything is finally coming together. Lastly, I started watching the office on Netflix. O. M. G. It is the funniest show I have ever seen. You have to have a good sense of humor to really get into it. It has definitely cheered me up when I am having a rough or stressful day because I can't help but laugh at all the silly things they do on there!

Long story short.. I used to be a die hard Taylor Swift fan and then once she turned into a pop star and ditched the curls, I started disliking her. Well I saw her new album on iTunes this week and decided I would give it a try. I am OBSESSED. I bought the whole album (which I never do with any artist). Her lyrics are always on point. Some of the songs I have been loving are Clean, All You Had To Do Was Stay, and I Know Places.

As far as fashion favorites, I have been loving hats and flannels. I think I wear a hat every single chance I can so I apologize if I post like 5 outfits in a row of me wearing a floppy hat... but they are just so darn cute for the fall! Flannels have also been a go to since I can style them a million different ways. I can throw it over a tee or dress, wrap it around my waist, use it as a jacket, etc. AND they are available anywhere for affordable prices.

Side note | I apologize for being absent this week. As some of you know, the deadline for early admission at many colleges is November 1st. I have been working all week on perfecting my applications as well as having a huge load of school work piled on top of me. Now with all of that behind me, I will be posting much more in the upcoming weeks!

Pumped Up Kicks

Beauty can be found in everything. Last week, I found beauty in the sunset. This may sound crazy, but I have never really appreciated the radiance the Sun gives until this day. There is something so beautiful about mornings and something so marvelous about night. It is like two different worlds: dark and light. Sometimes the light from the Sun can guide you to your destination and sometimes it can blind you from where you ought to be going. The moon is the same way; the beam of light from the moon can help you see while its dark can also hide you. Life can be compared to the light of the sun and the moon. There will be days, seasons, and even years where something or someone will be blinding you from your destination. It is not until you get to the contrasting side to see where you should be headed. Some people are misguided by the sun and can only see with the help of the night and vise versa.
Okay, that was your little inspiration for the week. Let's talk fashion. I really need to find this dress in every single color but at the time I purchased it, I didn't realize how versatile it was. I can make it casual by throwing a jean vest or flannel over it or I can dress it up with a fur vest. It's pieces like this simple dress that need to be invested in because it lasts for years and something so basic will never go out of style. I got this little number from shophopes.com but you can find a dress like this anywhere!

Also, let me know if you would lake a hair tutorial by emailing me or commenting on instagram because I am kinda loving this look ;)

Indiana Jones

I have decided that fall is my favorite season. The chilly temperatures, the crisp air, and the colors of the season draw me in. Everyone should always have those go to classic pieces to throw on in the morning. Today, mine consisted of a blazer, jeans, and my favorite fall shirt - a chambray button down. These staples effortlessly complement each other and complete an outfit in no time. I love to add some accessories such as a scarf and a hat to finish off the look. Once again, my love for hats this season has controlled this outfit. Sometimes, layering can become pretty uncomfortable if the scarf becomes constraining or the jacket becomes too thick. This ensemble was absolutely perfect and will definitely be worn many more times until the brutal days of winter fall upon us.

Flannel Fever

After going on a little shopping trip this weekend, I suddenly became ten times more excited for cooler weather. I stocked up on some fall basics including button downs, jeans, and structured skirts. I am so excited to start pairing them with boots and scarves! It was definitely a little chilly today so I tucked this warm flannel from J. Crew Factory into a white pencil skirt. I know what you're thinking... white after labor day?! It works you guys, I promise. Let's just call it "winter white". I love a nice pair of ankle booties with skirts in the fall since it's not exactly cold enough to wear tall boots yet (the time will come though). I also really like how my grey Kendra Scott earrings and this Sara Bella Necklace from Nordstrom compliment the outfit so well. However, I can't wait to switch out my jewelry for a fur scarf!

Hats Galore

The one thing I have enjoyed the most about fall this year is wearing hats.... every. single. day. I cannot take them off. The one I am wearing, I bought from Nordstrom last year and I am obsessed with it. I swear as soon as I put on one of my hats I instantly feel put together. The great thing is that fall and winter hats come in seriously every color and style imaginable. From beanies to floppy hats, there is a suitable style for everyone's taste. I also felt like throwing on this hat toned down my super rocker outfit. I am also loving my combat boots. These are my everyday boots from November until February. I always look forward wearing them each year! I experimented today with throwing on a flannel over a graphic tee and I LOVE this look. It is seriously the perfect touch and especially helpful with the unpredictable weather of the South since I can just pull off the flannel when the weather is warmer some days.

I went to Charlotte over the weekend and scored
